Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 August 2026
Ocean Shipping Pty collects only the information needed to respond to your enquiries and fulfil your orders — nothing more. This policy explains, openly and in plain language, what we collect, why, who ever sees it, and the control you keep over it. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Scope of this policy
This policy covers personal information collected through oceanshippingpty.com — quote requests, contact enquiries, orders and optional customer accounts — and through direct contact with our team by phone or email. It applies to customers, prospective customers and website visitors alike.
What we collect
- Quote requests: your name, contact details, delivery address and request details.
- Contact enquiries: your name, contact details and message.
- Orders: your name, contact details, delivery address (and billing address where different), order contents and any note you add to the order.
- Accounts (optional): your name, email, optional phone number and a salted hash of your password — never the password itself.
- Technical information: basic request data such as IP address, used only for security and abuse prevention (rate-limiting and bot filtering).
We do not collect sensitive information (such as health, political or biometric data), and we never ask for card numbers or banking passwords — payment is made from your own bank against an invoice, so no payment credentials pass through this website. Cookie usage is minimal and described in the Cookies Policy.
How we collect it
Almost everything we hold, you typed yourself — into a quote form, the contact page, checkout or account registration. The small remainder is generated automatically when you interact with the site (the technical information above) or arises from ordinary correspondence with our team. We do not buy personal information from third parties, and you can browse the entire catalogue without identifying yourself at all.
How we use it
Personal information is used to:
- prepare and follow up quotations you have requested;
- process orders, issue invoices and coordinate delivery to your site;
- respond to enquiries and provide after-sales support, including returns and warranty claims;
- maintain your account, where you choose to have one;
- keep the website secure and prevent fraud and abuse;
- meet legal obligations such as tax record-keeping.
We do not sell personal information. We use it for the purpose you gave it to us, and for directly related purposes you would reasonably expect.
Who we share it with
Information is disclosed only where needed to serve you:
- Transport and delivery partners — your name, delivery address and phone number, so a driver can find your site and call ahead;
- Technology providers — the hosting and email infrastructure this website runs on, bound to process data only on our behalf;
- Professional advisors — accountants or legal advisers, where a specific matter requires it;
- Government authorities — only where disclosure is required by law.
Direct marketing
We are a low-noise business: correspondence you receive from us relates to your quotes, orders and deliveries. If we ever introduce a newsletter or promotional email, it will be strictly opt-in, with a working unsubscribe link in every message, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires.
Overseas disclosure
Our website and email infrastructure may be hosted on secure servers located outside Australia. Where that is the case, the data remains under our control, protected by the same safeguards described below, and is used for no purpose other than operating this website and serving your orders.
Data retention
Order and invoice records are retained for as long as Australian tax and business law requires (generally five years). Quote and enquiry records are kept while they remain useful for serving you, then removed. Account information is kept until you ask us to delete the account.
Storage and security
Records are stored securely and access is limited to staff who need them to serve you. The website is served over HTTPS, account passwords are stored only as salted cryptographic hashes, and forms are protected against automated abuse. Payment happens bank-to-bank against an invoice, so payment credentials are never stored on — or even pass through — our systems. See the Security Policy for the wider picture.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may, at any time:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct anything inaccurate or out of date;
- Delete — ask us to remove information we no longer need to keep (statutory record-keeping excepted);
- Ask questions about how your information is handled, and receive a straight answer.
To exercise any of these, contact us on +61 489 989 670, email info@oceanshippingpty.com or use the contact page. We respond promptly and without charge.
Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first — we take it seriously and will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change — the date at the top shows the current version. Material changes are highlighted on this page; continued use of the site after a change means the updated policy applies.
